Expo 74 +50 Represented at GU Senior Design Expo

design expo

The event, endorsed by the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), positioned Los Angeles as an emerging epicenter of fashion creativity and innovation. Talented people from these two disciplines and covering a wide range of markets and industries join to teach aspiring artists and professionals about the ins and outs of the job. The UX STRAT is a hybrid event of 2022 and can be accessed remotely as well as in-person. Bringing together leaders from the creative world, it promises to deliver an experience of strategic design thinking where you’ll learn new tools and techniques of design and product development. The UXDX Conference brings stakeholders together and showcases companies and case studies where these shifts are taking place and making an impact. If you are looking to see what actionable insights are in this field, and the various ways they can be implemented into teams and designs, this is the conference for you.

Light! Design Expo June 20, 2024

This semester’s Senior Design Expo showcased 204 team projects from 12 schools and three different Georgia Tech colleges. Students across disciplines collaborated to innovate, underscoring the importance of bringing diverse minds together, paving the way for innovative solutions that hold promise for shaping a better future. ECE winning team Electric Pump for Rocket Propellants designed an electric pump which can be used to deliver liquid propellants into a rocket engine. “We are overjoyed to bring this type of open streets event to our Irvine community for the first time,” stated Mayor Farrah N. Khan in a news release. Participants are encouraged to come prepared for a day outdoors and to take advantage of the wealth of resources and expertise available onsite.

Team members discovered that travelers with limited vision frequently rely on video calls with friends or family for assistance, while others depend on airport staff to push them to their gates in wheelchairs. Second place went to Paul Brionez, CID+, senior PCB design layout engineer, Wisk Aero. Third place went to Ajeesh Francis, senior PCB engineer, Tessolve Semiconductor Pvt. At the end of the round, each competitor delivered their project file to judges Kris Moyer and Patrick Crawford, IPC; Steve Roy, Roy Design and Manufacturing Service; Russell Steiner, Amphenol; Kevin Kusiak and David Caputa, Lockheed Martin. The judges placed weight on examining completeness of the board (i.e., how many routed nets) vs. critical errors – namely short circuits, clearance violations, via producibility, and various signal integrity aspects. This week, the Michelin Guide unveiled its inaugural Michelin Keys in the United States, which spotlights outstanding hotels across the country.

London Festival of Architecture 2024

In the lead-up to LightSPEC West, Performance Lighting Systems, the Acuity Brands agent, recently organized a local event at the House of Blues in Anaheim. Furthermore, SCI Lighting Solutions, the longtime Cooper Lighting rep, is planning to host its very popular agent event in Irvine come June, two months following LightSPEC West. These individual events by major agencies seem to indicate a preference for hosting their own, focused events rather than participating in the broader regional show.

After you register, you can participate in art-making programs, look at exclusive art exhibitions that may fuel your creativity, and enjoy live Q&As with celebrated artists, designers, and innovators. The rest of them give you a chance to go out, stretch your legs, revisit the design scene, and explore how others in your communities have fared. With that in mind, and also knowing how the last two years have made even the most introverts among us crave social connection, here is a list of 24 design events to attend throughout the year. Throughout the year LADF hosts community events and programming that brings Los Angeles' creative community together for growth, connection, and conversation. This project is focused on giving those inexperienced with semiconductor fabrication an opportunity to bridge the gap between theoretical and practical knowledge by building a simple solar cell. See all the winners from Capstone Expo and visit expo.gatech.edu for more projects.

Design Festival North 2024 – Newcastle

Inside.lighting's underpaid interns have been regularly cold-calling various U.S. convention centers to try to confirm the next venue for LightFair. Finally, thanks to a helpful staff member at one of the convention centers, we have learned the confirmed dates and location for LightFair 2025. However, out of respect for the show's owners — ANDMORE, IES, and IALD — we will keep the details confidential until all of their related contracts are signed and executed. LightFair, traditionally an annual highlight for the lighting industry, has transitioned to a biennial schedule. As such, 2024 will not feature a LightFair event, a first in its storied history.

Projects involve teams of four or five engineering, computer science, or technology students; a faculty advisor; and a technical liaison from the sponsoring company, working collaboratively for a full academic year. Another group worked with We2Link to build a web application to help people with memory problems and integrate a caregiver support system. They implemented a way for storing recollections of events, facts, and dates both on mobile devices and in the cloud platform, so users can retrieve them anywhere online. Also, different features were included in the web app such as digital folders to save photos and videos, as well as the option to provide caregivers access to help manage information or content to remember. This year, several teams of students were challenged to develop a lightweight, 3D printable airplane with the most innovative design and the longest flight duration.

Industry Logo Showcase

The speakers and participants of the conference are poised to conduct workshops and discussions on user research, service design, UX, and innovation. Held by the Whitney Museum of American Art, this is a hybrid art event where some shows are in-person while others virtual. All of us always talk about design as a creative process, and it is.

FASHIONS EPICENTER

The Shrine has hosted many prestigious events such as the Academy Awards, the Grammy’s, the SAG Awards, People’s Choice Awards, BET Awards and more. Students also designed and built an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) that can complete specific tasks at the annual RoboSub competition sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. The objective is to enable the AUV to navigate the competition environment, identify competition tasks, and complete them autonomously. Tabilas plans to apply her knowledge and experience to launch a startup business with her friends after graduation.

It’s a one-day event where you will get to see real designers go on stage and show you the branding and logo design presentations that they once presented to their clients. Any piece of design – industrial, commercial, or creative – that can enhance the user experience will get a foot in the door while others will be banished from society. As the design thinking evolves to become more human-centered, events like Experience Design will be a great way to learn the anatomy of experience, advanced analytics, and ethnographic research to fully – pillars of experience design evolution.

Design Futurism is more than speculation, it  is an opportunity to explore the past and look forward with a strategic eye. This designer show house-type installation is the first of its kind initiative that highlights the creativity, quality, and global impact of U.S.-based brands that design and manufacture domestically.

Seek out and engage in various networking opportunities provided by the event, such as social gatherings, workshops, and discussion forums, to build valuable industry connections. The manufacturers and reps were more relaxed and engaged, compared to the big shows like LightFair. In response to this anticipated surge that could provide and additional 25% of foot traffic, LEDucation will be introducing evening exhibit hours on Tuesday for the first time, providing additional networking opportunities. We wonder if continued growth will someday necessitate staggered attendance days in the future or result in sidewalk queues akin to those outside high-end Fifth Avenue retail stores during peak shopping hours.

The week will consist of the usual events, exhibitions and parties at showrooms and other venues across the city. Attending a trade show is a great way to network with like-minded people, learn about the latest techniques, tools, and processes, or take a “low-stress” trip approved by your company. Our team will be using the information to plan their 2024 event schedule. We hope to connect again with folks we met at past conventions and get to know a few new faces over the year.

You will get to meet fellow information architectures, web designers, user experience experts, and industry leaders from all the relevant fields. The LA Design Festival is the only biennial, citywide event of its kind as a multi-day and disciplinary celebration that connects Los Angeles’ deep design culture and community. Our annual, tent pole event takes form over the course of a four day festival where we experience studio tours, panel discussions, salons, curated exhibits and installations, gallery shows, and a block party. Iceland's largest design festival returns to Reykjavík with an event spanning disciplines including architecture, fashion, interiors and graphic design. The world's biggest annual design gathering encompasses the giant trade fair at the Fiera Milano exhibition centre plus the "fuorisalone" fringe events hosted in hundreds of different venues across the city's design districts. Project Exhibition Graphic images of the most current local lighting projects featuring the collaborative work of local designers and manufacturers will be on display through out the event space.

How else can I make a balloon powered car?

Take the help of dry sponge, marshmallows cut in half, clay, foam, chewing gum or hot glue to connect the wheels to the axles. Your balloon car will drive crooked if the axles (skewers) are not facing perfectly forward. To make the balloon car drive straight, the straws holding the skewers must be parallel to one another and totally perpendicular to the water bottle.

And from the administration’s perspective, they say, well, yeah, you can say that and you can think that. Or though you may have good intentions, you’re saying things that you don’t realize the implications of. And they’re making this environment unsafe for others.

Materials and Equipment

Designers brainstorm multiple possible solutions, then develop a few of them into more detailed plans. Encourage your students to plan at least 3 of their potential ideas before choosing a design direction and starting to Create a product based on their design. If they hit any roadblocks trying to create their first design choice, they’ll be able to revisit their alternate design plans and choose a new direction - without starting from scratch.

Place another wedge shape on the workplane and size it to 20mm wide, 10mm long and 15mm tall. Change the wedge to a hole, and rotate it to match the image. Select the cylinder and press the left arrow key on the keyboard 5 times. This will move the hole 5mm to the left away from the end of the box. Place a cylinder on the workplane and size it to 11mm in diameter and 25mm tall. Place a box on the workplane and size it to be 20mm wide, 60mm long, and 20mm tall.

Place a piece of Blu-tack underneath the centre of the bottle top lid. Many bottle top lids already have a dimple to show the centre. If yours doesn’t you will need to measure to locate this. Make sure nothing is selected, then click Fillet.

To bring our idea of building balloon powered car in to reality, just grab the supplies listed here and get ready. This balloon car design contains one of 6 Simple Machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines can help make difficult tasks easier. They change the force needed to complete the difficult task.

Materials

Glue the bottle top on the roof and the straws at the back in place, making sure that they are all secure and that there are no holes for air to escape from. Tape the end of the straws together and gently push the straws through the hole in the roof and out of the small hole you cut at the back of the car. Make two small holes with the tip of the glue gun into the bottle top for the two straws to fit snugly into. On one end of the “window, bonnet, grill and roof” piece, cut a small hole, large enough for the two straws to fit through.

When you release the balloon, this stored potential energy is converted to kinetic energy, the energy of motion. Eventually, the car will come to a stop, but the energy is not lost—it is converted to other forms like sound and heat (from friction). Decide on the best design of balloon race cars by trying on wheels of diverse sizes since that influences how far the car can go. You can also trim the exhaust straw to various lengths or use straws having different diameters to check which system supplies maximum thrust. This lesson gives students an opportunity to learn about common hardware items as well as technical design and construction techniques.

Does the front of your car have any flat areas on it? A water bottle works well for this project because it has a curved shape that moves through the air more easily. When you just let a balloon go on its own, it tends to randomly fly around the room, and is almost impossible to steer. However, when you attach the balloon to a car, like the ones shown in Figure 1, you can harness the balloon's energy to propel the car forward!

This little car is made from recycled materials and is propelled by a balloon. The principle behind the movement in this car is the same one used in real rockets and jets that shoot a high-speed stream of gases out the back of their engines, propelling the vehicle forward. In this project you will use this principle to build a toy car that is propelled forward by the stream of air escaping a balloon through straws as it deflates.

Huge Savings at Ballard Designs Outlet

ballards design outlet

Frontgate Outlet always has a lot of really nice doormats at a great price. This table was originally $1600 marked down to $800 and would have been $400 out the door. But then starts patio to the left and it really was a lot of pieces. Like many outlets, Frontgate Outlet highlights some full living room setups in the front of the store.

Virginia Furniture Outlets

Ballard Designs is a leading home furnishings and décor company that offers a wide range of stylish and high-quality products for customers. Founded in 1983, the company has a strong reputation for creating timeless designs that are both functional and beautiful. The couches in the front looked like floor models maybe. They were not set up to present well so I, unfortunately, did not check prices.

Find Ballard Designs by states - 4 locations

So many varying shapes, sizes, and colors- there truly is something for everyone. You can also find online clearance lighting here. You can find lots of Ballard Designs mirrors at the outlets. Keep a close eye on the clearance section to snag one online for a similar discount. While the outlet has tons of discounted rugs, you can land some equally good deals by browsing clearance rugs here. Some Ballard Designs Outlets offer a waiting list for specific items.

Frontgate Outlet & Grandin Road Outlet: West Chester, OH

Seeing a product online does not necessarily mean that it will be available at the outlet store. Below are some examples of inventory that has been spotted. Sadly, Ballard Designs Outlet does not provide an in-house delivery service.

How much cheaper is Ballard Designs Outlet?

I have only bought my Bailey stools and some accessories from here though and the condition was perfect. I think one thing that Ballard does well at the outlet is have several of the same piece so you can get a whole set of chairs frequently. This is where I got my Bailey dining chairs which I use outside.

Does the outlet have a Client List?

By far the best deal of the day but hard to photograph due to location. This rattan daybed (they had two) originally over $3000 on sale for $330 plus tax. Would be so cute in a little girls’ boho room. Sometimes the lights are on extra sale because they have so many.

Unfortunately, that is not what I was shopping for, so I did not look too closely at prices, but it was 50% of the lowest price. The Ballard Outlet Kentucky location receives their deliveries 2 to 3 times per week, Monday through Thursday. They do not have a consistent set schedule for their trucks. They were just 50% off retail price but some really cute ones. Head straight to the outlet or browse their current clearance options online.

She also recently featured the Restoration Hardware Outlet in Centerville, OH and Arhaus Outlet in Hilliard, OH. Like I mentioned above, check the Grandin Road website for the most accurate information. If you’re tight in space and need something in the corner this could be a great solution.

Amanda from over @theharkinshome here, with yet another outlet from West Chester. Everything was 50% off the lowest price the day I went. When shopping for furniture at the Ballard Outlet, it’s crucial to thoroughly inspect each item as all sales are final. This will help ensure that you are completely satisfied with your purchase. In addition, you can find items with red clearance tag prices for even steeper discounts.

When the desired item arrives at the outlet, you will receive a phone call to inform you that it is now in stock. If you are interested in this service, it’s a good idea to call your local outlet to inquire and add yourself to the list. Products available at Ballard Designs include furniture, lighting, bedding, rugs, wall décor, and much more.

With a commitment to exceptional quality and value, customers can trust that they are getting products that are not only stylish but also built to last. This large carved bookcase was originally $1000 and would have been $150. The small bookcase was $700 and would be $100 out the door. Fourty percent of the Frontgate Outlet was Christmas.

Amanda, from over at theharkinshome, is back with another walk through but this time, over at Ballard Designs Outlet. I knowwww I said the next one was Pottery Barn Outlet, but that’s BEFORE I knew she was going to Ballard! I have never had a peek inside this store, so it was a real treat for me. I am an independent blogger and I am not affiliated with any company. The views and opinions expressed in this blog post are solely my own and based on my personal experiences. Celebrity Cruises improperly stored dead body in cruise ship's cooler, instead of morgue, lawsuit claims

celebrity cruise dead body

The ship’s required working morgue was not functioning at the time, the lawsuit says. Whether it’s polluting our oceans and air, causing illness outbreaks or even straight up massive fist fights and sexual assaults, cruise ships are pure trash. We can add “storing loved ones improperly in drinks coolers” to the list of reasons to avoid these floating toilets. When the ship returned to Florida, a funeral home employee and a Broward County deputy learned that the morgue on the ship was allegedly out of service, so instead the body was stored in a bag, inside a walk-in drink cooler, on a pallet. However, upon returning to Florida on August 21, a funeral home employee discovered that Mr. Jones’ remains were not in the ship’s morgue.

More from CBS News

Jones died of a cardiac medical emergency while on the Celebrity Equinox cruise ship in August 2022, which was traveling from Fort Lauderdale ports in the Eastern Caribbean. Celebrity Cruises declined to comment, citing the case’s sensitivity and “out of respect for the family.” The Celebrity Equinox, which cruises the Caribbean year-round out of Fort Lauderdale, is flagged out of Malta and can carry almost 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew members. Lauderdale, a funeral home employee and a deputy from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office were brought on board to retrieve the body only to discover it wasn’t where it was supposed to be.

Man's body stored in drink cooler after he dies on Celebrity Cruise: lawsuit.

So, they have a morgue on board, but some how the body was stuffed into a drinks cooler by someone at some time. That cooler was already fulfilling its purpose while a perfectly good morgue sat empty! As we saw with the BuzzFeed News report on sexual assaults at sea, staff aboard these cruises are often not exactly trained in things like collecting evidence or (apparently) body storage. Most cruise ships have morgues onboard because passenger deaths can happen during a voyage, and vessels are required to carry body bags. When Marilyn Jones’ husband of 55 years Robert Lewis Jones died of a heart attack aboard a Celebrity Equinox ship sailing through the Caribbean in Aug. 2022, she was promised by cruise staff that his body would be kept safe in the ship’s morgue, according to the lawsuit.

Celebrity Cruises improperly stored dead body in cruise ship’s cooler, instead of morgue, lawsuit claims

The ship is set to depart on a seven night cruise from Fort Lauderdale at 6 p.m. If the facts presented in the lawsuit are accurate, then they acted horrifically and should be held accountable. This isn't even getting into the health/hygiene aspects of storing a DECOMPOSING CORPSE in a walk in fridge, which presumably will be used to store items for human consumption. Not only was she grieving the loss of her husband of 55 years, but she was dealing with challenging logistics, especially as she was traveling alone at this point.

celebrity cruise dead body

I can appreciate not wanting to offload the body in Puerto Rico, where it would have probably been much more complicated, but the next six days of the cruise must have been rough. Last August, Marilyn Jones and her husband, Robert, set out from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on an eight-day Caribbean cruise aboard the Celebrity Equinox. The family claims that if Celebrity had informed Jones of the out-of-service morgue, she could have chosen to get off in Puerto Rico with the body and potentially still have an open-coffin service. Celebrity Cruises declined to comment on the case, citing “the sensitivity of the alleged facts and out of respect for the family”. According to the lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday in Fort Lauderdale, after Robert Jones died, his widow was given two choices by crew members.

Royal Caribbean cancels cruises to Haiti amid ongoing turmoil there

“Instead, Mr. Jones’ body had, at some time not yet known, had been moved from the ship’s morgue to a cooler on a different floor than the ship’s morgue. The cooler in which Mr. Jones’ body was found by the funeral employee had drinks placed outside of the cooler, and was not at a temperature which was sufficient nor proper for storing a dead body to prevent decomposition,” according to the lawsuit. However, "When the funeral services employee in Ft. Lauderdale was brought onto the ship to retrieve Mr. Jones' body, his body was not located in the ship's morgue," the lawsuit alleges, according to CNN. "The cooler in which Mr. Jones' body was found by the funeral employee had drinks placed outside of the cooler and was not at a temperature which was sufficient nor proper for storing a dead body to prevent decomposition," the complaint said. But when the vessel returned to Fort Lauderdale on 21 August, a sheriff’s office deputy and funeral home employee found that Robert Jones’s body had been placed in a bag on a pallet on the floor of a drinks cooler, according to the lawsuit. The room was not cold enough to prevent the body from decomposing, and funeral staff were reportedly not able to salvage the body enough for an open casket funeral.

Celebrity Cruises if facing a lawsuit from the widow of a man who died while on board.

Celebrity’s actions caused the family “extreme trauma by visualizing Mr. Jones’s body horrifically decomposed, and knowing their husband and father was callously and casually left in a beverage cooler, stripping him of his dignity,” the suit reads. A cruise line stored the body of a passenger who died onboard in a drinks cooler for several days, causing the man’s body to turn green and decompose, the man’s widow alleged in a federal lawsuit filed in Florida last week. Celebrity's actions caused the family "extreme trauma by visualizing Mr. Jones's body horrifically decomposed, and knowing their husband and father was callously and casually left in a beverage cooler, stripping him of his dignity," the suit reads.

While not every passenger on board has had their COVID vaccines – two adults and 24 kids, about 1% of the total passenger count, are unvaccinated – Royal Caribbean Cruises Chairman and CEO Richard Fain said Friday that he’s confident that the cruise line is ready to get back to business. Lauderdale was unable to salvage his remains enough to be suitable for an open casket wake and funeral, which was a long-standing family custom and was what his family had desired,” reads the lawsuit. Ships have morgues for this very reason, and there are supposed to be protocols in place for handling deaths. Those protocols aren’t always followed, though, and Celebrity Cruises is now facing a lawsuit over how it handled a recent death. It also alleged that Jones was told Puerto Rican authorities might insist on an autopsy, delaying the return of the body.

The filing said Marilyn Jones, her two daughters, and three grandchildren are seeking a trial by jury. According to the filing from Wednesday, the bereaved widow was given two options by crew members after her husband had died during the cruise. According to Celebrity's website, for cruises departing from ports outside of Florida, all passengers age 16 and older will still be required to be fully vaccinated. While all crew members are vaccinated, Fain said the company won't enforce vaccines among passengers leaving from a Florida port. Eight of the 14 ships within Celebrity Cruises' fleet plan to return to sailing this year, according to a Saturday news release.

“Morgues are located on ships’ lowest decks, generally along what the crew refers to as “I-95″ — the long corridor that runs from one end of the vessel to the other,” according to the travel blog The Points Guy. “The reckless and careless actions and omissions of Celebrity directly and proximately caused Plaintiffs’ injuries, because if Plaintiff’s knew that there was not a working morgue on the ship, they would have had Mr. Jones’ body taken off the ship,” the lawsuit claims. The Adventure of the Seas passengers' close contacts were vaccinated and tested negative.

But when a funeral home worker and a Broward County sheriff’s deputy came aboard in Fort Lauderdale to retrieve Mr. Jones’s body, they discovered that it had been moved from the morgue to a cooler on a different floor, according to the lawsuit, which was filed Wednesday in U.S. The other option was to keep the body in the morgue, which is what Jones chose. Cruise ships are legally required to have morgues because deaths onboard are so common. In a complaint filed in Florida federal court on Wednesday, the family of the Robert Jones, who was 78, accuses the cruise line of improperly storing his body after death, resulting in its decomposition. She decided to have the body stored in the ship’s morgue as she allegedly would have had to pay for transportation from Puerto Rico to Florida. Marilyn Jones and her family are asking for compensatory damages in the amount of $1 million and are demanding a trial by jury.

I can’t imagine the pain and devastation of losing your husband while isolated on a ship and then learning your loved one was rotting in a cooler while you thought they were being properly cared for while you continued on your journey. The family is asking for $1 million in compensatory damages and they should get every red cent. The lawsuit also explains the extent to which Jones’ body decayed after being stored in the ship’s cooler, as reported via NBC News. In August 2022, Robert L. Jones and his wife, Marilyn Jones, boarded Celebrity Equinox, a cruise ship owned by Celebrity Cruises. However, according to CNN, a happy event soon turned tragic when Mr. Jones died due to a cardiac event. According to the complaint, Robert L. Jones, died due to a cardiac event while on the Celebrity Equinox cruise ship in August 2022, traveling from Fort Lauderdale to ports in the Eastern Caribbean.

A 2020 study in the International Journal of Travel Medicine and Global Health found that between 2000 and 2019, there were 623 deaths reported on cruise ships. When the ship arrived in Florida, a funeral home employee and a Broward County sheriff's deputy found the morgue apparently out of service. According to the lawsuit, when funeral service employees entered the ship to retrieve Jones’ body, it was not found in the ship’s morgue.

According to CNN, the woman is accusing the company of improperly storing her husband’s dead body in the ship’s cooler after he died on board. Although requirements vary, modern cruise ships are required to have a working morgue onboard, according to a 2018 report by Thrillist. After all, each ship has thousands of people onboard, and cruises are also popular with elderly people, so every once in a while people will pass away. When the ship arrived in Florida, a funeral home employee and a Broward County sheriff’s deputy found the morgue apparently out of service. They found the body in a walk-in drink cooler in a bag on a palette, according to the suit.
